Rocksalt in Folkestone

On Wednesday I journeyed to Folkestone with my friend and our mums to try the much raved about restaurant Rocksalt, that is situated overlooking the boats and sea, apparently on a clear day you can even see France! There is a gorgeous terrace that runs along the side of the restaurant but unfortunately the cold rainy English weather forced us inside, luckily the whole side of the restaurant is one large window so our view was not compromised. We heard about this restaurant as the head chef and owner created the picnics for the Royal Family during the wedding celebrations and has been a firm favourite of my friends since. We started with the cocktail of the day which was prosecco infused with pineapple, vanilla and strawberries. I don't have a sweet tooth but even I could appreciate how delicious these flavors were when combined. Most of us ate off the set menu which was two courses for £18.50 and three for £21, which I think is very reasonable considering the quality of the food and view. The menu changes daily and the produce is unbelievably fresh.

To start I had the crispy fish, on a bed of marinated tomatoes and samphire - my absolute favourite food at the moment. This was amazing and I would highly recommend it if you enjoy a breaded crunchy fish.

For the main course I had a whole black bream served with a delicious potato salad, chargrilled spring onions and a wedge of lemon, that was secured in a net to catch your pips as you squeezed - genius! Other people had the rabbit and black pudding salad that was an incredibly mixture of rich tastes combined with light citrus salads.

We finished off with cooked rhubarb placed on baked custard - an absolute winner - and a delicious cheese board full of produce from Kent and Sussex.

I would also recommend the bread, as their fennel and raison selection is incredible and they keep bringing out far more than you could ever eat! We finished the day on the terrace upstairs with blankets on our knees and coffees in our hands before a stroll along the beach.

It was such a gorgeous experience and if you are ever in the area then you must check it out!
