Review | Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

A photograph of the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

There has been a lot of hype over this new release from Maybelline and I wasn't actually that interested in it to begin with; probably because I am not that much of a fan of their Baby Lips range and I have both drug store and high end primers which I love. However, when I was in Boots the other week there was just one left on the shelf and temptation got the better of me!

The Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser has a different formula to the creamier primers I tend to reach for; instead it is a silicone gel which is designed to smooth out the skin and blur any imperfections, such as fine lines and large pores. It can be used on its own to perfect your natural skin; as a primer for foundation or it can be applied on top of makeup to help control oil and shine. It is also fragrance free which will please a lot of people.

I believe this product does achieve what it promises, it is a very smooth product that creates a matte base, blurs imperfections and does keep oil at bay. Having said that I would say it also softened the dry patches on my skin, making it perfect for all skin types. When applied it does enhance your complexion and I can see this being a very popular product.

Having said that, personally I do not love this product as I am not a fan of the texture because it makes my skin feel greasy. When I first used this primer I combined it with my Laura Mercier oil free tinted moisturiser, which I absolutely adore, see why here. These two products did not work well together and I felt as though I was just moving the tinted moisturiser around my face. I also found it was difficult to blend into my skin, a problem I have never experienced before. Since then I been pairing it with my YSL Liberator Foundation, see post here, and these work well together. I would say a big tip for using this product would be to allow a few minutes before applying anything over the top of it. The longer I left it the better the second product would sit on my skin and I did not feel like it would just slide off! I also did not find that it made my makeup last any longer than if I didn't use it so I would not purchase it for longevity.

I think that if you like silicone formulated primers, like the Benefit's POREfessinal, then this is a perfect product for you and at £7.99 it is very affordable. The packaging is small and compact making it perfect for travelling and your makeup bag. Although I will not be using this as a primer I do think that for no makeup days I would reach for this as it really does blur imperfections and enhance your complexion.

Did you find this lived up to the hype?
What is your favourite primer?

  1. I felt similarly to be honest - good for the price, not the best ever. It was pretty much what I expected it to be! I didn't experience the problems you had with your tinted moisturiser though, as I've only tried it out with foundation. My review is here, if you're interested: http://littlethingssheloves.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/review-maybelline-baby-skin-instant.html x

  2. I will check it out now. I agree it was ok just didn't live up to the hype really. X

  3. Really interesting to read your review!

  4. I have seen so many bad reviews of this, especially about it making makeup slip off.
